"Good photographers are not judged by the equipment they use, but by their results." - Andrew Goodall

I have always been interested in photography and have almost made it a hobby. However, not having a powerful camera has hindered me from doing so. Well, this is what I used to think until I have recently stumbled upon an article that tackles about producing great photos with minor technical aspects and by simply letting nature do the work.

Here are some photos I have taken last year with just my digital camera…

SERENITY

Location: Roundhouse Beach, Ili Norte, San Juan, La Union
Date Picture Taken: May 2, 2008, 4:33 PM

JUST ANOTHER DAY

Location: Roundhouse Beach, Ili Norte, San Juan, La Union
Date Picture Taken: May 2, 2008, 6:06 PM

BLANKET OF MOUNTAINS

Location: Mines View Park, Baguio City

So even with the limitations of my camera, I was able to add impact to a photo by mostly depending on natural light, right timing, right place, and a good angle.

Tatay used to tell stories about his life. How he ventured from Cebu to Northern Luzon. How he persevered just to provide for his family. I can still remember the look in his eyes, his smile, his voice, and his enthusiasm while sharing these experiences and adventures he’s been through. He even listed all the jobs he took on a notebook. I never saw the notebook. Not until the day before his funeral.

On the notebook he wrote:

Farmer.
Carpenter.
Blacksmith.
Bolo maker.
Theatre Projector Operator.
Welder.
Plumber.
Utility Man.
Mimeograph Machine Operator.

Writer.
Artist.
Gardener.
Inventor.
Traveler.

Father.
Brother.
Husband.

Comrade.

The notebook, though it’s old, is indeed a treasure for us because written on its very first leaf tells everything about Tatay. Hmmm.. although there’s one more job that Tatay may have missed to write - a great Grandfather!

Happy Birthday, Tatay!
We miss you and we love you!

Have you ever asked someone a question and gave you one of the lamest answers? Well, I did. A lot of times.

But there was a time I asked my co-worker/friend, Tan-tan, something related to programming and he simply just answered “i-google mo!” Thinking that he was just being cranky and all that, I stared at him, raised an eyebrow and like said at the back of my head, “Uh.. What kind of answer was that?!” Wanting to get a meaningful answer from him, I kept on asking him and he kept on replying “i-google mo!” and would just smile.

Then…

I gave up.
Went back to my workplace.
Opened my browser.
And googled.

Lesson Learned: Sometimes the simplest (or probably the lamest) answer can be the best solution.

Of course don’t expect google or other search engines to always give you accurate information coz they don’t

UPDATE NO. 1

Here are some good tips from Kuya Cyber:

Here’s a few of my fave google shortcuts!

Looking for a filetype? use -filetype:pdf to filter your results to PDF files!

Need a word’s definition? Easy! Just type: define “your-word-here”

Need to convert a currency? No Problemo! Just type: 100 usd to php (”replace usd and php to the currencies of your choice!”)

Cyber and I had a conversation about me having trouble finding the sense of fulfillment in the things I do. For the past eight months, I felt as if I’m slowly being drowned into a pool of depression. I used to handle my problems very well but now I don’t even know where to start so I always end up whining about.. errr.. pretty much everything. Afraid that the people whom I confide with might someday get tired of listening to me, I felt that I need another outlet. So my boyfriend suggested that I should create a blog. He told me that it’s about time to do something for myself. I was a liiiittle bit hesitant at first but come to think of it I guess he is right. If I can’t think of other things to do (being lazy that I am), then I might as well start with a blog. I always have a lot in mind but never really put them into writing so now I’m going to take blogging a shot. Hopefully, I would feel that sense of fulfillment again.
